Graduate school for licentiate degree students
The graduate school is intended for teachers and pre-school teachers in the science and technology subjects. The graduate school, also referred to as “Communicate Science in School” (CSiS), runs over four years with 50 per cent work duties at a school/municipality and 50 per cent research, concluding with a licentiate degree.
On 1 January 2015, eight licentiate degree students started at the graduate school, and 2 new places were added in August 2015 in a second round of applications. The graduate school runs over four years with 50 per cent work duties at a school/municipality and 50 per cent research, concluding with a licentiate degree. The participating municipalities are Ängelholm, Helsingborg, Hörby, Trelleborg, Burlöv, Lomma, Karlshamn, Vellinge and Svedala.
The licentiate degree students are pre-school teachers and primary, secondary and upper-secondary school teachers focusing on the importance of communication for pupils’ motivation and learning in the science subjects. The aim of the graduate school is to identify how science communication in various contexts and environments can hinder or support interest and understanding in pupils.
Currently a major national initiative through MAX IV and ESS is starting in our region, which will increase interest in science and technology in the future. We also have exciting informal learning environments such as the Vattenhallen Science Centre in Lund, Naturskolan (the Nature School) and Malmö museums. Altogether, with strong research environments in the region, this provides extraordinarily good opportunities to develop a graduate school in the region – including for the future.
The ambition is to create a cohesive graduate school in which we continuously gather the heads of the relevant administrations, principals and research students, to discuss right from the start how the knowledge of the teachers involved is to benefit the development of schools once they graduate.
Graduate school start date: The graduate school was started on 1 January 2015.
